Sending Greeting Cards

The custom of sending greeting cards to friends and relatives for special occasions originated in England, where the practice was limited to people who could afford to pay private messengers to carry their greetings across great distances. With the advent of a British law that established inexpensive mail delivery, a market for sending greeting cards for birthdays, anniversaries – almost in any occasion imaginable- opened up overnight. In America the card market was expanded by the founder of Hallmark Cards.

سنت ارسال کارت تبریک برای دوستان و خویشاوندان در ایام خاص در انگلیس ابداع شد، جایی که این کار مخصوص کسانی بود که قادر به پرداخت هزینه پیک های خصوصی جهت فرستادن کارت تبریک ها به مقاصد دوردست بودند. با اجرای قانونی جدید در بریتانیا مبنی بر ارسال ارزان قیمت نامه ها، رقابتی برای فرستادن کار ت های تبریک تولد و کلیه مراسمی که هر ساله برگزار میشدند – تقریبا هر موقعیتی که قابل تصور باشد- به صورت طرح شبانه آغاز شد. در آمریکا بازار ارسال این گونه کارت ها توسط موسس شرکت "هال مارک کاردز" گسترش یافت.

Getting rid of a cough

People have tried many strange remedies to get rid of a cough. One cure is to take a hair from the coughing person's head, put it between two slices of buttered bread, feed it to a dog, and say, "Eat well you bound. May be you sick and I be sound."

خلاص شدن از شر سرفه:

مردم برای خلاص شدن از شر سرفه روش های درمان عجیبی را به وجود آورده اند. یکی از این روش ها این است که تار مویی از سر شخصی که سرفه میکند کنده، آنرا بین دو تکه نان کره مال قرار دهیم، آنرا به خورد سگی دهیم و بگوییم: "باید این را بخوری، باشد که تو مریض شوی و من تندرست!"

Active Form: invited/ woke up/ stole

Example 1: They didn’t invite me to go to the party, so I didn’t go.

Example 2: A loud noise woke us up during the night.

Example 3: How much money did they steal in the robbery?

Passive Form: was/ were + invited/ woken up/ stolen

Example 1: I wasn’t invited to the party, so I didn’t go.

Example 2: We were woken up by a loud noise during the night.

Example 3: How much money was stolen in the robbery?

همان طورکه مشاهده میکنید نحوه مجهول کردن جملات گذشته ساده نیز عینا همانند حال شاده است با این تفاوت که به جای am/ is/ are از was/ were استفاده میکنیم.

از آنجایی که تمامی زمان های ذیل نیز به همین ترتیب مجهول می شوند، بنده فقط به ذکر چند مثال از هر کدام بسنده میکنم:

How to be creative

من فقط يه بچه ام!

I’m a child who wanted to play
I was ill and pain didn't go away

کودکی ام كه فقط ميخواد بازي كنه

اما بیمارم و درد و رنج لحظه اي تنهام نميذاره 

I couldn’t help it but I felt so sick
My life was on a risk

هيچ کاری ازم بر نمياد، اون قدر حالم بده

كه زنده بودنم در خطره

Some how I could not cope
Still I could not give up on this hope

يه جورايي فكر ميكنم ديگه نميشه تحمل كرد

اما با اين حال نميتونم نااميد باشم

With pain I could not stop my cry

But to be brave I had to try

با وجود اين دردها نميتونم گريه نكنم

اما برای شجاع بودن باید بجنگم

To feel well is taking so long
Trying to live, I had to be strong
